Continuing with the Native American Theme through this quarter we've chosen a teepee craft.  The Georgia Creek tribes didn't live in teepees but a lot of other tribes used them.  We're going to take this a step further by encouraging the kids to use Native American symbols/pictographs to convey the message they would want on their home.

Supplies you need from the art closet

paper bags

ribbon to tie the top ( or you can use tape)

Supplies you need from the classroom

Crayons or markers

scissors

Supplies you need to bring from home

if you want to print out the symbols to pass out to the class, you'll need to do that at home.  ( save and print the picture to the left )

Instructions

Pass out a bag to each child, if you printed out the symbols page pass that out or you can draw them on the board.  Have the kids draw a triangle for the door at the bottom front of the bag, then they can decorate it however they want, encourage them to use the symbols.  When they are done, have them cut the door on two sides so they can open and close it and tie the top closed or tape it.
