Supplies from home- Yarn/string

Precut pieces of construction paper in half (there is a paper cutter in the back of the library that makes this job quick and easy). Have kids cut out shapes to glue on their pieces of construction paper. Fold the top of each monster over a piece of string/yarn and staple across the top. Continue until all the monsters are on the string forming a banner.

Class Supplies - Scissors, glue
Supplies from home - tissue box and egg carton

Have kids bring in their own boxes in any size (or bring them in for them). Glue construction paper to the outside of the boxes (or spray paint them ahead of time if you bring in the boxes). Cut the opening bigger and glue on teeth cut from white construction paper. Bring in egg cartons (or have the kids bring them in). Cut the cartons into two and three per group. Have the kids glue google eyes on the bottoms of the egg cartons and glue them to the top of the boxes. They can also cut feet out of construction paper and glue them to the bottom of the boxes.

Class Supplies - Scissors, glue
Supplies from home- box, googly eyes

Have kids bring in their own boxes in any size (or bring them in for them). Glue construction paper to the outside of the boxes (or spray paint them ahead of time if you bring in the boxes). Have the kids glue on various shapes and google eyes to make faces. They can stick pipecleaners in the sides or tops to make arms and antennas. They can also glue on pieces of construction paper to make feet on the bottom.

Blow Paint Monsters
Art closet supplies- Construction paper, paint
Class Supplies -  glue
Supplies from home- googly eyes (optional), straws

Get a piece of white poster board (or two) and google eyes. There is tempera paint in the art closet – put a little in a paper cup (also in closet) and add a bit of water so it will drip and blow. Have kids come up two at a time and pick a paint color for you to “drop” onto the board using a paint brush. Then have the kids use a straw to gently blow to spread the paint (make sure they do it in different directions to get a “well rounded” monster. Once all the kids have done one and they have dried, have them come back up and glue on eyes.

Cut Out Monsters

Class Supplies -  scissors, glue

Precut pieces of construction paper in 1/4s (there is a paper cutter in the back of the library that makes this job quick and easy). Cut various size white circles or bring circular objects for the kids to trace on white paper (think plastic bottle caps, marker caps). Let the kids cut their quarter sheet construction paper pieces into their own monster shapes. Then glue on as many white circles as they like. Have them add pupils and mouths with teeth and tongues. I would make a few examples to show them ideas.
