To go along with The Wright Brothers unit we thought it might be fun to let the kids experiment with aerodynamics.  We've included diagrams to the left with several paper airplane designs, when they are done decorating and creating their plane encourage the kids to test them, see who's plane flies the furthest, straightest, does the most loops, etc.

Supplies from the art closet

Copy paper works better than construction paper, there is a stack of colorful copy paper on the shelf.

Supplies from classroom

crayons or markers

Supplies from home

You can print out the diagrams on the left at home or make models at home to show in class as instructions.

Instructions

Put several sheets of copy paper on the tables for kids to use.

Encourage them to decorate them and try different styles to see which they think will behave the way they want. Once the kids have a few made call them up to try their planes in the front of the class.  You can have them compete or just let them demonstrate for the class.
